Barry
Burks '77 Physics
Dr. Burks, who earned the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics at the University
of North Carolina, is President of TPG
Applied Technology. Barry, whose company designs robots used for nuclear
cleanup, addressed the Lynchburg College Senior Symposium in the fall of 2002.
Ann
King '72 Physics
Ann writes, "I am now the tech writer for a small manufacturer in Oakland, very
near home. I love my job. I not only write, but also make 3-D designs in SolidWorks.
. . .Let me just say again that changing my major to physics was one of the
best things I ever did."
Courtenay
B. Clifford '70 Physics
Courtenay earned the M.S.
in Computer Science in 1976 from Fairleigh Dickinson
University, Teaneck, NJ. He retired from Lucent
Technologies in 2001 where he was a Senior Manager in charge of systems
engineering and operations planning for long distance operations. He currently
works for SoHaR, Inc. Courtenay writes, "we
teamed up with other firms and won the Safety
and Mission Assurance Contract from NASA. The overall contract supports the
safety, reliability, maintainability and quality of the space shuttle,
International Space Station, payloads sent to space, and the new Constellation
Program. My
position is as a Reliability
Analyst specifically for the Shuttle. The job is every bit what I expected.
Heavy duty math--Weibull distribution functions, Bayesian analysis methods,
Markov Processes and the like! How do you predict the failure rate of a unit
that has never failed? … YET!! Who knew that I would be using the
Statistics I learned in the math class I took at Lynchburg?"
Roger
Trent '70 Physics
Roger is Chief Operating Officer of Medical
Automation Systems. He earned the M.S. InMaterials
Science from the University of Virginia.
Roger addressed the Lynchburg College Senior Symposium in the spring of 2003.
